After sixteen years of running the St Margarets Community Website, I decided to close it down. I often thought about what I wanted to do with the site, how I would pass it along or how I would turn it off. In the end, it was a fairly easy decision, I just had to write the final posts, add a message and make a plan on how to turn off the bits that will not age well.

My Speech at the Memorial for Dad
We recently had a memorial for my father at the Milwaukee Yacht Club. I reluctantly spoke for the family. It was pretty difficult to do. The four speakers that preceded me, Randy, Terry, Marv and Ted, said such lovely things, and my boys both read, the start of the Hobbit and The Road Less Travelled by Frost, that I was pretty emotional. For two of the items, I had my brother come read them.

Robert Carl Mahnke
After a short and rather one-sided battle with esophageal cancer, Robert Mahnke died on March 17, 2013. He is survived by his mother Florence, sister Suzanne, wife Pamela, sons Peter and John and grandsons Owen and Ryan.

I have always voted conservatively on the national level and liberally on the local level. It is because I feel that money spent locally is more targeted and better managed with less bureaucracy that if you try to solve the same problem at a national level.
