We picked a two day, one night home stay on Amantaní island in Lake Titikaka.

On the way there we stopped at Uros floating islands, which are man-made floating islands made from reeds and reed root balls. They were originally started as a failed way to escape Inca slavery. Now it’s really just for tourists.

Then we carried on to Amantaní island. We had a great guide from the island and we were met off the boat by our family. We had lunch and then learned about their weaving, embrodery, cooking, farming, and ways of living. Then we walked to the top of the island to an old pre-Inka temple for sunset, which wasn’t great, too cloudy.

After dinner, we dressed up and went to a dance for locals and all the other visitors.

It was a pretty interesting experience.
